Why did you choose this career program?
I choose the accounting field because I have always been someone who looks at things analytically. When I had my Intro to Business class in high school and we started the accounting unit, I found that everything just made sense, and just like that, I knew what I field I wanted to go into.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
One thing I have learned about accounting is that there are so many different pathways you can take with it. Normally you think of someone sitting behind a desk crunching numbers, but in reality, there is so much more to it. You can go into the managerial or tax worlds. You can travel with forensic or auditing accounting. There are high-level and entry-level jobs to get involved in. There are no real bounds to where you can go in this field.
Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I chose Fox Valley Technical College because of the reputation. Lots of my high school classes offered some kind of credit through Fox Valley Tech, and everyone I talked to loved the flexibility and options available to them. When I started here, I fell in love with the small class sizes because they allowed me to connect with people who I never would have been able to otherwise. I am very glad that I have the opportunity to go here.
How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?
Going to Fox Valley Technical College has changed my life by helping me grow my skill set. In class, they emphasize important traits that employers in the area are looking for. It is that information that has allowed me to have a better understanding of how business in my area works but also showing me how I can fit into it. Instead of just reading theories out of a textbook, my instructors have shown me how they have applied these concepts in the real world through experience, and it has shown me how to apply what I am learning at my job.
What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
When I graduate, I expect to find a job where I am able to learn and grow within the company. I hope that I will find a way into the auditing or forensic field, but I also know that I when I am given an opportunity to try something new in my field, I want to take it and see what experience I can get out of it.
What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?
There are going to be times when you don’t know what you are doing or you feel like you don’t belong, but if you push past those feelings and continue to take advice and learn everything you can, you will get so much farther than you ever expected.

Best on-campus place to study: One of the best places to study is the Business Lab.
One class you surprisingly enjoyed: My Data Analytics class has been very interesting.
One class that challenged you: My Payroll class was one of my most challenging classes.
One thing every FVTC student must experience on campus before graduating: Join or participate in at least one club (Check out DECA!).
Pro tip for newcomers trying to find their way around campus: Always have a map on your phone or person, and plan for an extra 20 to 30 minutes on the first day to make sure you can find your classrooms.
