Career Program: Landscape Horticulture and Horticulture/Landscape Specialist

Why did you choose this career program?
I chose to pursue a career in horticulture because I want to expand my family’s apple orchard. After completing my degree, I plan to establish a greenhouse operation on the property to support its continued growth.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
One thing I find fascinating about horticulture is learning about the different needs of plants. Some require plenty of sunlight, while others prefer shade. Some need lots of water, while others are a little pickier about their growing conditions. In some ways, plants are just like people; each has its own unique needs and preferences.
Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I chose Fox Valley Technical College because it was the closest college offering a horticulture program and was also the most affordable option.
How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?
FVTC has changed my life by allowing me to form memorable friendships. I know that even after I graduate, I will be able to reach out to my classmates anytime, anywhere, and maintain the friendships I have made along the way.
What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
After graduating, I plan to own and operate my own greenhouse next to my family’s apple orchard.
What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?
You don’t have to have everything figured out before starting college; just give it a shot and see where it takes you.
