Why did you choose this career program?
I chose early childhood because I always loved playing teacher with my sister when we were younger. When my sister got older and found a job at a center, it inspired me to want to possibly go into the same field as well. Even when she passed away in 2020, that desire to work with kids never left and encouraged me even more to go into early childhood to help students learn and grow.
What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?
What I have been finding rewarding about being in the early childhood field is the hands-on experience. I enjoy going to centers each semester and interacting with the children and applying what I have learned in the classroom on campus.
Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?
I chose Fox Valley Technical College because I have always heard great things about the college. I got to experience it firsthand during tours in high school and was shown how hands-on and engaging the programs are, which I knew would be the best fit for how I learn.
How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?
Fox Valley Technical College has helped change my life by boosting confidence through the support and encouragement from my instructors. I have seen myself grow over the semesters because they consistently push me to step out of my comfort zone and try new things.
What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?
I am planning on finding a job as an assistant teacher or paraprofessional, starting in a preschool with children around ages 3 to 4. Eventually I hope to transition into an elementary school to work with students in 1st through 4th grade.
What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?
I would say to just go for it, because you won’t know until you try, and it is okay if you decide to change to a different career path.
