Why did you choose this career program?

I chose to pursue a career in firefighting because it is a very dynamic job, meaning different things will be encountered every day and new challenges will be faced. I have also had many personal experiences that sparked my interest in this career. For example, my grandpa was a volunteer firefighter, and being around this field has always been interesting to me.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

An interesting aspect of this profession is the continual advancements in fire technology, including new tools, gear and equipment. These advancements help to ensure the safety of firefighters and reduce the inherent risks of the job.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I selected Fox Valley Technical College because its technology and equipment closely resemble those used in the real-world fire service. The training and practical work are demonstrated by instructors with extensive experience as career firefighters and are a great help when it comes to learning skills.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

At Fox Valley Technical College, many of the instructors are employed in career fire departments; therefore, many career opportunities are shared, and students get connected with departments all over the state.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I expect to be a full-time firefighter in a nearby career department.

What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?

My advice would be it never hurts to try something new and gain new experience. Take a campus tour, meet with other students interested in the same career and see how amazing the campus is. Make sure to ask questions and talk to the instructors, they will help you with whatever is needed.
