Where Will Future Truck Drivers Work?

Director of FVTC’s Truck Driving program has an answer

With the American Trucking Association reporting more than 80,000 driver vacancies nationwide, a spotlight is on the trucking industry like never before.

In addition to the pandemic taking its toll on the industry, other reasons behind the shortage include a stressed supply chain system, older truck drivers choosing to retire and age mandates that prohibit drivers under the age of 21 from crossing state lines in a big rig.

Fox News recently connected with Rob Behnke, director of FVTC’s Truck Driving program, to get his perspective on what the college is seeing from our students. Rob indicates local companies are making it more attractive for FVTC trucking students to stay local, themselves.

“With the need for truck drivers, local companies have changed their hiring procedures, policies and so it’s kind of a mixed bag right now,” Rob explains. “Our graduates are probably leaning a bit more toward local careers, regional careers.”
