Why did you choose this career program?

My grandmother became disabled when I was in the second grade, and I helped take care of her. I grew a passion for it and have been following my heart in this field since then. I am currently a CNA employed at a rehab center and a clinic. I plan to open up my own group home or assisted living facility and continue to follow my dream.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I’m learning that both the medical assistant field and nursing field can be shaped into whatever you want them to be. For example, if you want a relaxing environment, you are able to search for job settings that provides such. Both fields provide patient care and quality care, which are my goals every time I show up for my shifts.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose Fox Valley Tech college because as a mother, I feel this is the best school that supports parents and allows room for education without stress.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

Being able to go back to school was always one one of my biggest goals, so the flexibility provided at Fox Valley Tech, as well as the resources, has helped shape my future tremendously. I have already landed at a job at Mosaic Family Health clinic and will start this fall. A pilot program has been created for Medical Assistant students to work, as long as they have their CNA license, to prepare them for the field post graduation. If this isn’t incredible, I don’t know what is.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

After graduation from the RN program, I plan to start my own business to utilize my license. I have currently found a role as a medical assistant, which is the first program that I enrolled in and will graduate from this year.

What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?

Honestly, think of something you love to do, explore all program options, meet with academic advisors and plan accordingly. There is no way your dreams can’t come true. The staff at Fox Valley Tech make it possible. There’s always a resource. There is always guidance.
