Shout-Out to Our Student Speaker Nominees

Paula, Kimberly, LeAnn, Vaab

It’s a week to celebrate our students as we prepare for commencement. We’re proud to recognize four outstanding individuals who were nominated by FVTC faculty and staff for the honor of serving as the 2025 Winter Commencement Speaker.

Paula Grambsch, Kimberly Henley, LeAnn Wierzba, and Vaab Xiong each represent the dedication and spirit of Fox Valley Technical College. Being nominated for this role is a testimony to their impact and leadership during their time here. We’re excited to share their reflections on their educational journey at FVTC.

Paula Grambsch / Associate Degree – Human Resources

I chose FVTC because of its flexibility and strong sense of community. As a working student balancing a career, academics and personal responsibilities, having a flexible schedule was essential to me. FVTC allowed me to take classes that fit my lifestyle while still receiving a high-quality education.

Before starting my Human Resources journey, I began my studies in FVTC’s English Language Learning (ELL) program. That experience truly changed my life, it gave me the confidence to pursue higher education in a new language and a new country. The encouragement and support I received from my ELL instructors inspired me to keep going and continue building my future here. The teachers and staff at FVTC are deeply committed to their students’ success, and the community they’ve built makes this college feel like home.

Kimberly Henley / Technical Diploma – Practical Nursing

I chose Fox Valley Tech for many reasons. They have amazing programs, outstanding faculty and support. They are inclusive and understand the diversity that comes with learning and personalities. They are connected to the Fox Valley with many ways to connect with the outside communities and programs.

I chose the LPN program because I have always wanted to give back to my community and be able to advocate for those who may not have a voice or think they don’t; to be a small light in the dark when everything in the world is crashing down around us. Being a nurse, helping those in need with compassion and care, is everything now.  (note: Kimberly recently made the decision to continue at FVTC for one more semester.)

LeAnn Wierzba / Associate Degree – Human Resources

I chose Fox Valley Technical College because this is where I came when I decided to get my HSED. All the instructors and staff were so kind and helpful, I knew this would be the right choice to return to school again. The flexibility with the classes being online or in person are very helpful since I also work a full-time job and take care of family.

One of the things I enjoyed most about my time at FVTC has been the instructors. Carmen Butts is an awesome instructor. I had the privilege of taking two of her classes in person. She kept us engaged in the classes.

Also, spending time with fellow classmates, which turned into making new friends. I also had the privilege of attending one of those classes with my son. I thought that was cool. Few parents can say they attended school with their child.

Vaab Xion/ Technical Diploma – Help Desk Support Specialist

I have enjoyed being a student. This school is designed to promote success. I appreciated the kind atmosphere here.

Right after graduation, I will be working on course work to obtain the Certified Associate Project Manager’s certificate through Project Management Institute and the Entry Certificate in Business Analysis from the International Institute of Business Analysis. After obtaining these two additional certifications, I hope to find an entry level job on a project management team. My dream is to one day become a Lead Project Manager.
