Food Locker Project Coming to FVTC

College will benefit from partnership between US Foods and Feeding America

Fox Valley Technical College will soon offer students a unique way to get access to fresh food and produce.

As part of its hunger-relief efforts nationwide, US Foods has awarded Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin a $750,000 grant to expand its Direct to Neighbor food locker project into seven additional communities, including one location at FVTC.

The college plans to have the lockers installed and ready for students to use by January of 2025.

The lockers will be located outside Entrance 6, making it convenient for students to pick up their groceries whenever it fits their schedules. Since the lockers are outdoors, students will have 24/7 access.

Students can access the lockers using an app called Order Ahead, where they can place their food orders directly. Students can find the location by searching for Fox Valley Technical College on the app and a special code will be required to unlock the locker, ensuring access is limited to FVTC-enrolled students.

FVTC offers a variety of resources through the college and community that are available to students. Sly’s Goods Food Pantry provides free food for students and their families. All currently enrolled students are welcome to shop the pantry once per week.

“With each year that passes we are serving more and more students,” explains Brooke Gibson, Student Activities and Engagement specialist at FVTC. “Sly’s Goods serves 75-100 students per week, with not as many donations coming in, it is a struggle to keep up with the demand.”

Partnering with Feeding America will help offset Sly’s Goods Food Pantry. The food lockers will help reduce the stigma around food insecurity, which has been a key goal for Brooke.
