Celebrating Native American Heritage Month at FVTC

Native American Heritage Month is a time to celebrate and educate about the culture and heritage of Native individuals and their positive contributions to society.

Currently, there are more than 600 federally recognized and non-federally recognized tribal nations of what is currently known as the United States. Each nation has their own set of cultural traditions and beliefs. To explore native lands in our communities and beyond, check out the interactive Native Land world map.

Here at Fox Valley Technical College, we proudly support and celebrate the Native American community throughout the year.

During November, FVTC is offering the following learning opportunities:

Beading Circle with Shelby Siebers

Thursdays, November 6, 13 & 20
11:00 a.m.–3:00 p.m.
Appleton Campus | Room E120

Join Shelby Siebers, AASD Student Success Advisor and member of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin, as she showcases, demonstrates, and teaches various arts and crafts rooted in her culture. Learn how to make earrings, keychains and more while connecting with others. Supplies are provided, just bring your creativity!

Tribal Histories with PBS Wisconsin

Watch video linked below.

PBS Wisconsin – Tribal Histories features tribal storytellers sharing the culture and oral traditions that have shaped their communities across generations. The series of half-hour programs presents the histories of all 11 federally recognized American Indian tribes and bands located in Wisconsin, plus one tribe that is seeking to regain its federal status.

November is a time to educate ourselves and others on the rich cultural history that Native Nations have.

Tribal Nations of Wisconsin:

  • Menominee Nation
  • Oneida Nation
  • Forest County Potawatomi
  • Stockbridge-Munsee Community Band of Mohican Indians
  • Ho-Chunk Nation
  • Brothertown Indian Nation
  • Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa
  • Bad River of Lake Superior Chippewa
  • St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin
  • Lac Courte Oreilles Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians
  • Mole Lake Band of Lake Superior Chippewa
  • Lac Du Flambeau Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians

Though November is the month dedicated to celebrating Native American Heritage Month, we must work to celebrate Native history and culture throughout the entire year. There is so much to learn and celebrate, Native American history is American history.
