Celebrating National Ag Day with Future of the Field

On National Agriculture Day, we want to salute our Agriculture, Horticulture and Natural Resources programs and their collaborative effort to bring Future of the Field to WFRV-TV Channel 5.

This renewed partnership means FVTC stories exploring hands-on learning, the latest in technology and training, and different career pathways will return to Midwest Farm Weekly.

The project kicked off earlier this month when Mike Fassbender, instructor in Outdoor Power, visited with host Millaine Wells. Mike is taking the lead on the segments but will be frequently joined by FVTC faculty and students.

The goal of the segments is to bring awareness to how FVTC is preparing students for the ever-changing industry.

“What we’re trying to do is always work with our local partners and try to get the latest and greatest technology in front of our students,” Mike explains. “Because if we can get that in the students’ hands, we know they are going to be more prepared going into their career, whether that be a traditional path or a more non-traditional way.”

Midwest Farm Weekly airs on WFRV Local 5 on Saturdays at 5:30 a.m. with a rebroadcast on Sundays at the same time.

The theme of National Agriculture Day for 2026 is “Together We Grow”. The day is an opportunity to recognize the contributions of agriculture. According to the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection, Wisconsin is one of the most agriculture-dense states in the country, ranking 10th nationally in total value of agricultural production at about $16.7 billion.
