High school culinary students compete for FVTC scholarships

Sixteen high school students representing six area school districts brought their culinary skills to Fox Valley Technical College to compete in a cooking/baking throwdown.

Entered in either a burger or cake category, the students worked under deadline to prepare their food in the FVTC kitchen labs and then submitted their entry to the college’s Culinary instructors for consideration. The event awarded the top three finishers in each category with a scholarship to FVTC. It was also a great opportunity for prospective students to get a first-hand look at the Culinary program.

“We really wanted to solidify what our culinary department would be,” said Gary Lyons, culinary instructor at FVTC. “Also, we’re starting an associate degree in baking and pastry, so we wanted to invite those students that are interested in baking a pastry to be able to compete as well.”
