Electro-Mechanical Technology

Career Program: Electro-Mechanical Technology
Hometown: Costa Rica
Current Residence: Appleton
Age: 19
Attended FVTC: Spring 2015 – Present

Why did you choose the Electro-Mechanical Technology program?

When I earned my Electronics degree, the part I enjoyed the most was the machine control, not working with small components but controlling a big machine. That was when I realized automation is my field and wanted to get more involved in it.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

I’ve learned how much technology has evolved through the years, like how in today’s world it takes a relatively small device to control a full production line. I’m also learning how each year everything keeps getting smaller and more efficient.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

When I received my scholarship, I had the opportunity to choose between 10 different colleges around the U.S. Of them all, FVTC had more equipment in the labs, more complete programs in the manufacturing area, and more opportunities for the alumni.

How did Fox Valley Technical College help you change your life?

FVTC has a really open-minded community, where most of the instructors and students are really welcoming. That shows me that you can expect to find that type of environment in the industry, which made more passionate about the profession that I chose.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I hope to find a job on a production line that allows me to practice all the knowledge I’ve acquired at FVTC, ideally one that focuses on the maintenance, programming and repairing of programmable logic controllers.

Forged Early

When Logan Nikolai was 13, he pulled on a welding helmet for the first time. The bead he laid that day on a metal door at the Kids Kart Club shop in Neenah wasn’t perfect, but it was enough to spark something lasting. Inspired by his grandfather, he had spent years helping build go‑karts, fixing
