Why did you choose this career program?

I have been an Artist from a young age. After graduating from high school I started my college education at Kalamazoo Valley Community College in the Interior Design program. After a year, I got married and my husband and I started a family. I was a stay-at-home mom and artist for many years. My husband passed away suddenly on January 1st of 2021, and I needed something to keep moving forward (family motto). So I decided to go to school and get my Associate Degree in Interior Design.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

The most rewarding thing to me is to be able to do what I love. Art has always been who I am and love. This is just an added extension of that.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose Fox Valley Technical College because it was local and because my youngest daughter was attending. It was a great fit.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

FVTC has truly given me hope for my future. School wasn’t always easy for me, as I had to work hard for my grades. FVTC has truly shown me that anyone can do it, and at any age. FVTC staff and Instructors truly help you succeed. The support services were amazing in helping to keep me moving forward.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

I didn’t have a particular area that I was looking at. I just trusted the process, time and sought out what had been laid out for me. I am excited that, prior to graduating in May 2026, I have been hired as a Window Treatment Designer in the Fox Valley. I feel honored and blessed to be where I am.

What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?

Think about your future and keep moving forward despite whatever lies in your path.
