Why Staying Close to Home Was the Smartest Move for This FVTC Grad

We always knew Heidi Docter was passionate about her experience at Fox Valley Technical College. Now this proud graduate of the Natural Resources Technician program is one of the faces of a new campaign that shows how higher education can help build stronger communities.

FVTC is one of ten colleges and universities who are part of the New North and its Growing Roots, Finding Wings project. The campaign emphasizes the value of college and its long-term impact on individuals and the economic vitality of the region.

And who better to speak the value of higher education than Heidi? The Ripon native earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Oshkosh where she majored in English. Her passion for the environment then brought her to FVTC where she earned an associate degree in natural resources. Heidi now works as an LTE Wildlife Technician/Wildlife Biologist for the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and lives in the area.

What is New North?

A non-profit regional and economic development corporation that connects investments with companies that seek to invest in the area. Its reach includes 18 counties in Northeast Wisconsin.

When asked to participate in the campaign, Heidi didn’t hesitate to share her story.

“I think higher education helps people be more open-minded and compassionate individuals and the more compassionate we are as a society, the better.”
