Why did you choose this career program?

I love how food brings people together and how you can show love to people around you by sharing baked goods. I want my career to feel like I’m hosting dinner parties all the time, and that’s what a career in culinary and hospitality allows me to do.

What are you learning about your career field that you find interesting or rewarding?

Being able to hone in on so many skills at once, from building cakes to cooking sugar, is so valuable to me. I feel excited to attend class every day and expand my knowledge, becoming a better baker than I was the day before.

Why did you choose Fox Valley Technical College?

I chose FVTC because this program is a really good mix of hands-on lab experience and practical lecture classes. During my first visit to campus, I was really drawn to the energy of people who were passionate about learning a trade.

How has Fox Valley Technical College helped you change your life?

In addition to feeling so much more confident professionally, I have found such a great community amongst my classmates and instructors. I feel very proud of the people I am lucky enough to surround myself with at FVTC.

What type of job do you expect to find after graduation?

Hopefully, one that pays me! Honestly, I’m still figuring it out. Even in just seven months at FVTC, my perspective on what’s possible has expanded so much, and I’m excited to see where my skills and interests take me.

What’s your best advice for someone who’s not sure they’re ready for college?

YOLO.

Lightning Round!

Best on-campus place to study:
The upstairs of the library by the big windows.

One class you surprisingly enjoyed: Science of Baking.

One class that challenged you: Culinary Applications.

One thing every FVTC student must experience on campus before graduating: Pebble ice from the health wing.

Pro tip for newcomers trying to find their way around campus: Ask anybody. This is Wisconsin, and there’s lots of Midwestern hospitality.
