Police Academy Life

An inside look at life in the FVTC Law Enforcement Recruit Academy

“The friendships I’ve made here I’m going to carry with me for the rest of my life. We have been through 19 weeks of some of the toughest stuff that some of us have ever gone through, both personally and professionally.”

That’s what Appleton Police Officer Danielle Burke had to say about her experience participating in the FVTC Law Enforcement Recruit Academy.

On May 19, Fox Valley Technical College welcomed 29 new graduates of the spring 2023 Law Enforcement Recruit Academy during a ceremony at the Public Safety Training Center. Recruits began the program in January, with 12 law enforcement agencies representing the employers sponsoring the recruits. In addition to many local agencies, out-of-district employers include Horicon Police Department, Kewaunee County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Sheboygan Police Department.

As part of the experience, recruit Devin Meeuwsen led a team project to create a behind-the-scenes video showing what life is like in the police academy, spotlighting the recruits and capturing some of the more memorable moments.
