Highlighting Woodworkers in Demand

The region’s need for skill in the wood manufacturing industry is prevalent. Instructional leaders in Fox Valley Tech’s Wood Manufacturing Technology program hosted a roundtable discussion at the college’s S.J. Spanbauer Center in Oshkosh with 14 industry leaders who shared their perspective on what can be done to collectively address the skill shortage.

The gist of the discussion focused on ways to shift perceptions about the industry, which today is more high-tech than ever and includes a viable pathway to a career full of creativity, craftsmanship, and opportunities to work in diverse markets.

During the past three years, graduates of FVTC’s Wood Manufacturing Technology program have experienced a 92% placement rate. Many graduates become residential or commercial cabinet makers, CNC programmers, small business owners, project managers, and customized designers, to name a few.
