From Sandbox to Summit: Meet Student Speaker Jacob Sterns

Construction Management Technology grad will address students at commencement

Jacob (Jake) Sterns’ interest in construction began early.

At six years old, he could often be found in the backyard sandbox, refusing to leave until his latest project was properly built. After working in agriculture and landscaping throughout high school, Jake traded the fields and hills of Wisconsin for the mountains of Wyoming.

While working in landscape maintenance for a summer at the Grand Teton Lodge Company, Jake realized he wanted to pursue a career centered on building beautiful spaces alongside people who shared his passion. That mission brought him back to Wisconsin to pursue a degree in Construction Management Technology at FVTC, while simultaneously pursuing a Business degree through Western Governors University.

Jake chose Fox Valley Technical College because he wanted an education that emphasized hands-on learning and real-world experience. Jake credits the college’s collaborative culture and flexible class options with making his time at FVTC such a success. The connections he formed with classmates, faculty and industry professionals were among the most meaningful aspects of his experience.

With a friend, Jake co-founded Lionheart Studios, a business that helps content creators build independent personal brands. Following graduation, Jake plans to continue growing the business and pursue a career that emphasizes quality work and positive impact in the Fox Valley region.
