Foundation Golf Outing Funds Student Success

Annual fundraiser benefits hundreds of students each year.

Students Henry Letsa and Divinia Cosio

Students Divinia Cosio and Henry Letsa might not call themselves avid golfers. But they both have a sincere appreciation for what takes place on the golf links at Royal St. Patrick’s Golf Course in Wrightstown each summer.

Each August, the Fox Valley Technical College Foundation, Inc. hosts its largest fundraiser for student scholarships. Divinia and Henry are two of the hundreds of students to receive financial support with an FVTC Golf Outing Scholarship.

“The scholarship helped ease some of the financial burden of paying for school,” explains Divinia. She is a first-generation Mexican American working full time while in her second semester in the Legal Studies/Paralegal program. “It helped make sure the semester got paid off, and it helped pay for a new laptop computer.”

The FVTC Golf Outing Scholarship is awarded to students in an associate degree or technical diploma program who live in Wisconsin. Applications are evaluated based on four criteria: academic performance, involvement and leadership, financial need and overall application.

For Henry, who moved from Ghana to Appleton years ago, receiving the scholarship helped with tuition plus transportation expenses. While working in a laboratory at a local hospital, Henry enrolled at FVTC, and he is in his second semester in the Neurodiagnostic Technologist program. He says both the academic and financial support he receives makes FVTC feel like his home away from home.

“Both the teaching and non-teaching staff are amazing,” Henry explains. “The program is practical based, so we have hands-on training on whatever we are doing. The college is really shaping me.”

The 2024 golf outing raised $120,000 to support education at FVTC. It sells out annually with 152 golfers. This August will be the event’s 37th year.
