Celebrating Our Grads: Spring 2026 Commencement Student Speaker Nominees

Spring 2026 COmmencement student speaker nominees

As we prepare to celebrate commencement, we’re shining a light on the students who help make FVTC such a vibrant and inspiring place to learn. Faculty and staff nominated eight outstanding students for the role of Spring 2026 Commencement Student Speaker, recognizing their leadership and involvement on campus.

Although only one was selected to represent the class at commencement, each nominee’s journey reflects the heart of Fox Valley Technical College. We’re proud to honor their accomplishments and invite you to learn more about the experiences that shaped their time here.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Maria Barrera.

Maria Barerra – Substance Use Disorder Counseling

Maria returned to Fox Valley Technical College driven by personal experience and a deep commitment to supporting others facing substance use challenges. While balancing full-time work, she persevered through her educational journey and became a powerful advocate by sharing her story to inspire students and faculty alike. Maria found strong support from instructors and staff who guided her both academically and personally. After graduation, she plans to serve her community as a bilingual counselor, with a special focus on helping incarcerated women find sobriety and hope.

I saw a need for the Hispanic culture that are struggling with addiction. My goal is to be able to help others with addiction issues.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Robert Carlos Dos Santos Pinto.

Roberto Dos Santos Pinto – Business Management

Roberto came to Fox Valley Technical College as one of only three students selected from Timor-Leste to receive a prestigious international scholarship. As an early entrepreneur, he opened and managed a 24/7 retail grocery store at age 20, sparking his passion for business and leadership. At FVTC, he was involved in Phi Theta Kappa, international student initiatives, service projects and the BizSquad, gaining real-experience supporting nonprofits. After graduation, Roberto will return to Timor-Leste to work with the Ministry of Finance while continuing to grow his business ventures and create job opportunities in his home country.

I appreciate interacting and building connections with the instructors. They make time for you because they truly care about your career and wellbeing.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Madison Khang.

Madison Khang – Marketing

Madison found a strong sense of belonging at FVTC where campus resources and organizations made it feel like a home away from home. Passionate about creativity and strategy, she embraced marketing as her calling, enjoying everything from social media to building effective marketing plans. Madison was actively involved in the Hmong Student Union, Creative Arts Club, Pride Club, Climbing Club and CEO, forming meaningful connections along the way. After graduation, she plans to continue her education at UW-Eau Claire, pursuing her bachelor’s degree and expanding her future in marketing.

Even though I am miles and miles away from my family, FVTC makes me feel like I belong. There are so many clubs and services that make me feel heard and less alone.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Thomas Micke.

Thomas Micke – Business Management & Small Business Entrepreneurship

Thomas exemplified leadership and service throughout his time at FVTC, holding roles such as President of the SGA, Phi Theta Kappa and Student Veterans of America and co-founder and Treasurer of the Climbing Club. A defining part of his experience was working in the Veteran Resource Center, where he supported fellow veterans and built lasting community connections. After graduation, Thomas will continue growing his entrepreneurial ventures while remaining active in local community arts and organizations.

My involvement at FVTC was one of the most meaningful parts of my experience. These provided invaluable leadership development, lasting relationships and the chance to help build stronger student engagement on campus.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Ashley Palloch.

Ashley Palloch – Substance Use Disorder Counseling

Ashley pursued her education at FVTC driven by a deep passion for helping others and giving back through her own recovery journey. Throughout the program, she supported her peers by mentoring new students, sharing her experiences and serving as a trusted source of guidance. Ashley found strong encouragement from faculty and classmates who supported her through challenges and growth. After graduation, she hopes to continue her work in corrections as a treatment specialist, using compassion, empathy and lived experience to help others build healthier lives.

I appreciate this program and the school overall because of the dedication, support, compassion and empathy everyone shows while in school, and even after graduation.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Teagan Reitz..

Teagan Reitz – Nursing

Teagan built her FVTC experience around compassion, connection and dedication to patient care. Inspired by a lifelong admiration for nurses, she found purpose in supporting patients during their most vulnerable moments. Teagan was actively involved in the Student Nurses Association and served as a peer mentor, helping guide new nursing students through their first semester. After graduation, she will begin her career at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center in the IMU/Neuro unit, where she plans to continue growing as a nurse and pursue her bachelor’s degree.

Taking care of others during a vulnerable time, when they are scared, uncomfortable and stressed, and being the little sliver of comfort during their stay at the hospital has always been my dream.

Spring 2026 commencement speaker nominee Andrew Reynolds

Andrew Reynolds – Cybersecurity Specialist

Andrew found his path at FVTC after deciding to reinvent himself and pursue a career driven by his lifelong interest in technology. While at FVTC, he competed in the National Cyber League, served as a team leader, worked as a student intern in the Student Finance office and was selected for BizSquad, gaining valuable and real-world leadership experience. Andrew credits the strong FVTC community and supportive instructors for helping him succeed. After graduation, he will begin a cybersecurity internship with Heartland Business Systems as he works toward launching his career in the IT field.

After being laid off, I decided to study something that actually interested me. I knew the knowledge offered by an IT degree would be applicable in many industries and would not be time wasted.
