Celebrating a New FVTC Student Ambassador

Evan Olson selected for his leadership, service and strong communication skills

Professional Communications student Evan Olson has been selected as Fox Valley Technical College’s 2026 Wisconsin Technical College System Ambassador, an honor that recognizes outstanding students from across the state. In this role, Evan will advocate on behalf of the college about the importance and value of technical education in Wisconsin.

When Evan first considered his path after high school, he will be the first to tell you that college was not part of the plan.

“Before my time at FVTC, I was convinced that I would not go to college. I never enjoyed or performed well in school, and I believed that I was not cut out for higher education,” Evan shares. “Through some encouragement, I decided to give FVTC a chance and my feelings regarding my own education and future have taken a total 180.”

Along with his coursework in the Professional Communications program, Evan has been developing his landscape photography skills, volunteering at a local food pantry, supporting community outreach events and running his own laser‑engraving business.

Sarah Rivet, department chair for Professional Communications, nominated Evan after seeing the natural leadership he brings to the classroom.

“Evan supports classmates and takes initiative to improve the overall learning environment through online discussions,” Sarah explains. “His reliability, self-motivation and strong communication skills make him a good representee of the values of FVTC.”

The criteria used to nominate someone for FVTC Ambassador include academic excellence, commitment to leadership activities on campus, mastery of the student’s chosen program, and the ability to be an ambassador for the technical college system. To be nominated for this award, the student needs to meet all the criteria and participate in a process that includes interviews and a presentation in front of a selection committee.

Evan was selected from an exceptional group of students who were nominated by FVTC faculty and staff. They include:

  • Boluwatife Adesina, Cybersecurity Specialist
  • Joshua Crismon, Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • Madison Khang, Marketing
  • Thomas Micke, Business Management and Small Business Entrepreneurship
  • Jacob Sterns, Construction Project Management

Congratulations to all the nominees!
