Celebrating Black History Month

February is dedicated as Black History Month, an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in the history of the United States. We proudly support and celebrate the African American community at Fox Valley Technical College this month and all year long.

To commemorate this occasion, the following learning opportunities are available to FVTC students, staff and the community:


8th Annual Black History Month Museum

Join us in recognizing and celebrating the contributions of Black/African Americans to the history of the United States. During this time, we recognize and pay homage to the contributors, innovators and trailblazers within the Black community who have elevated the fields of business, technology, art, music and science.

Black History & Afro Hair Fair

Join us for the 3rd Annual Black History & Afro Hair Fair to support our revolution towards hair equity in Northeast Wisconsin.

This event, coordinated by People of Progression, intends to create a ripple effect that will increase haircare education to cosmetology students, local barbershops, salons, interracial & adoptee families, group homes, shelter services and more—causing greater awareness for our larger community on the essential need for increased access to health and hygiene services/products that support textured hair types.

The day will include:

  • Demos from textured haircare experts
  • Local business vendors/networking
  • Honoring the history of Black hairstyling
  • Product education
  •  Hair and Personal Care Education
  • – Tips & Tricks Workshops for Parents/Guardians*
  • *The Tips & Tricks Series are hands-on Workshops are an optional add on to the general admission ticket intended for parents/guardians to practice haircare with their child as their hair model. These half hour workshops are interactive hands-on training sessions tailored to 3a-4c hair textures.
